Fr.
Alvares, was having an independent vision.
The Catholic Church and the Portuguese Government
were just like two sides of a coin. He was
against the interference of the rulers in
the Church activities. The section of the
Catholic Community lead by Fr. Alvares formed
an ‘Independent Catholic Mission’. Finally
he left the RC Church. He wanted a free nation
and a free religion.

Fr. Alvares
had to suffer a lot of persecution at the
hands of the Portuguese for having accepted
the Orthodox faith. On his passing away 23
September 1923 he was interred in Goa. His
relics were on 5 October 1979 shifted to St.
Mary's church, Panjim. more... |
